Sash window glass upgrade options
Looking to upgrade your sash window glazing in the Home Counties? Here are your options.
Acoustic glass
Acoustic glass is perfect for reducing noise – many of our customers who lives in larger cities in the Home Counties opt for this option. This type of glazing can reduce noise by one decibel (dB) per 1mm of glass. To help you understand the impact this can have, a 10dB reduction in noise is perceived by the human ear to halve it.
Acoustic glass can also be double glazed for thermal performance, with an Argon filled cavity and warm edge spacer between panes.
Please note we can only upgrade your sash window glazing to acoustic glass if we’re replacing your windows altogether. This is because we need to ensure the glazing will fit into the frames; old sashes will not be able to accommodate modern thicker panes of glass.
Safety glass
There are two types of safety glass you can choose for your sash windows:
- Laminated glass. This is held together with interlayers and it won’t shatter if broken, making it popular for use in commercial properties due to the increased safety.
- Toughened glass. Treated with heat, toughened glass is stronger than normal glazing so less likely to break. It also doesn’t shatter if broken, instead breaking into chunks.
